I just received a lease agreement from the company I%26#39;m renting a HH condo from in June. I was a little surprised to read the following, ';Guest acknowledges the agents%26#39; authority to charge guests%26#39; credit card for damages to the property when occupied by the guest or his/her guests.'; While I am more than happy to pay for any damages, I was a little put back by the freedom to charge my credit card after we returned home. Is this a common clause and is it likely the property agent will slap on bogus damage fees? Do I need to take pictures of the place just before we leave?
Lease agreement
Do you not have the option to buy the damage insurance or whatever it%26#39;s called, or to just put down a damage deposit that%26#39;s refundable?
Lease agreement
This is a fairly common clause. It is used by hotels, rental car companies, and just about any type of rental property.
We normally don%26#39;t read the fine print when we check into a hotel, or rent a vehicle.
While there are unscrupulous agencies and owners out there, there are also unscrupulous renters also.
The chances that you will run into a problem is minimal however.

We are leasing from The Vacation Company and I know, from reading this forum, that it has a good rep. The company only offers damage insurance for rentals of four bedrooms or larger (we are renting a one bedroom at SeaCrest). Following the recommendations in this forum, I did ask if the unit (#2407) had recently been remodeled and the Vacation Company rep said it had not been since the unit was built in 1999. When I pointed out the web site said it had recently been remodeled, she said the web site was probably correct. That response made me a little nervous, but again, I decided to trust the company%26#39;s rep.
The Vacation Company like others does hire Telephone reservations agents by the season. They may not know each unit intimately. If you have a question talk to either Tiffany or Beth, who have the best knowledge of the inventory.
