I was planning on driving from Myrtle Beach south on I-17 over the Ravenel Bridge on Saturday, April 4, hoping to stop for a few hours in Charleston. Now I see that the bridge will be closed part of the day for a 10K. Does anyone know when the bridge might open again for traffic? I think it will be crazy all day in Charleston with the 10K participants, so I will not visit the city proper. My alternate plan is to take I-17 south from Myrtle Beach, stop at a plantation prior to the bridge for a couple of hours and then take Highway 544 around Charleston back to I-17. How long of a drive is it from I-17 on Highway 544 driving around Charleston and back to I-17 on the south side of Charleston? Do you think I-17 and Highway 544 will have really heavy traffic due to the bridge being closed?
I appreciate any thoughts you might have.

It%26#39;s a very busy day indeed. It sounds like you are thinking of Boone Hall - if you stay on Long Pt Road (were BH is) you can hop on 526 and bypass the city. However, as you can imagine, it%26#39;ll be busy anyway just b/c there are so many people coming to this little place for a short time. Are you headed farther south - like to Savannah?

Yes, we are headed to Jekyll Island, Georgia, but stopping first in Wilmington, NC to visit a college and thought we would spend the night in North Myrtle Beach. We get tired of I-95 south and thought that we could stop for a few hours and visit something interesting on the way to Jekyll from Myrtle.
That%26#39;s a great plan. Kudos to you for wanting to get off I95.
It will be busy on race day-lots of people from out of town trying to find places to eat. Stop at Seewee Restaurant (www.seeweerestaurant.com)on 17 before you get into Mt Pleasant. It%26#39;s awesome and won%26#39;t have long lines. Get the fried eggplant. OK now I%26#39;m hungry.
From Wilmington to N Myrtle is not far - b/c of the Bridge Run you might want to consider staying in Pawley%26#39;s Island or Litchfield Beach (south of Myrtle but north of Georgetown). Just a thought.
OO and Calabash is in between! See how bad I am? It%26#39;s all about the food!
How long of a drive would it be on a Friday night from Wilmington to Pawley%26#39;s Island or Litchfield Beach? We will drive earlier that day from DC to Wilmington, spend a good amount of time looking at UNCW for my son, and then I thought North Myrtle Beach was about another 70-90 minute drive and a good place to spend the night and relax a bit. Maybe we should continue down to Pawley%26#39;s Island, I have always want to go there. But my family will have had a long day....
Looks like a good choice to eat. Thanks!
That is a long day. Driving through Myrtle on Friday evening might try your patience. Had you thought about staying at Wrightsville Beach?
The big unknown is what the MB traffic might be like on that day, I agree. If it%26#39;s ok - I%26#39;d forge ahead to Litchfield or Pawley%26#39;s or you%26#39;ll ';always'; be stuck in traffic - this way you can break through to the other side. Murrell%26#39;s Inlet has some really great and fun restaurants.
FYI - we live in Mt. Pleasant and drove to Wilmington for the day, intending to stay overnight and return the next day - ended up just coming back since it was so easy. Did have dinner in Murrell%26#39;s inlet though before driving back home.
