Festival Tours

I%26#39;ve looked at the website for the Festival but I%26#39;m not sure I understand how the tours work. Is this an actual tour with a guide for the entire time, or do you walk it yourself and go in houses along a specific route with people in the house to talk about the house?

Also, we will be in Charleston the weekend for April 3-5. There are different tours each day - can anyone recommend which tour is most interesting? Also, any opinions on the harbor tour the evening of April 3rd?

Thanks

Amy

When you pick up your ticket (any time before 2pm) you will be given a map. The 8 or 9 homes will be marked on the map. Take a minute to orient yourself on the map; most of the homes will be on the same street or within a block or two. If there is a big distance to cover b/w one home and another, they%26#39;ll provide a shuttle bus back and forth.

Only inside the homes or gardens will you have a docent explaining the history/architecture/antiques/etc - you have to make your way between homes (but often it is only a few houses down the street). This gives flexibility to the order in which you see the homes - if everyone started at house #1 there would always be a logjam, so start wherever you%26#39;d like. (some people walk quickly to the end of the tour and make their way to the beginning; some people start in the middle - your choice). Hope that explains things!

Each tour has something you will find interesting, I%26#39;m sure. Every home I%26#39;ve ever been in teaches me a lot about 200+ year old buildings, art, antiques, southern living, etc. It%26#39;s fun and I%26#39;d recommend it!

Remember to wear COMFORTABLE flats and to carry a small flashlight. The streets can be dark in places and the sidewalks are uneven due to their age.
