I%26#39;m thinking of taking my 82 year old Mom to Charleston the first week in December. What is your opinion about the best place to stay and what we should do.Great location in hotel is primary. If the hotel decorated for Christmas that would be great. Price isn%26#39;t too big of concern. I%26#39;m looking for a very nice, convenient place...thanks!
Christmas time in Charleston
Charleston Place is beautiful for Christmas. What is your mother%26#39;s mobility?
Christmas time in Charleston
Mom is slow..but gets around quite well! She can certainly walk a few blocks..but the more convenient the better. Also, what activities are not to be missed?
She LOVES Christmas time and all the lights and decorations.
Walking downtown can be tough, because of the cobblestones. Roads are narrowed, and parking is scarce. Charleston Place is right on Market Street, however. Definitely do a carriage tour. Also, you want to drive through James Island County Park, as it is the ultimate Christmas light experience. A beach island day would be nice, Folly Beach is essentially 4 blocks long, with beach shops. There are 2 restaurants on the ocean for lunch. You could break up your week between downtown and the beach.
My mother is 84 and walks with a cane, so I%26#39;m reaching for things that she could do.
We did something different this past Christmas in Charleston...there is a progressive dinner which is put on by the parent of Circa 1886 (Wentworth Mansion) and 2 of their other B%26amp;B%26#39;s. Appetizers at one, mains at 1886, dessert/coffee at another.
Lots of fun, they take you from place to place in the horse drawn carriages. All food was excellent. There%26#39;s nothing on the site now, they run it from Thanksgiving through Dec. 23 (or something close to that), you might check w/them in a few months...

Yes, indeed - fully agree with the Progressive dinner. A very good value and an event for an entire evening.
You%26#39;ll probably also want to go shopping - there are free horse-drawn carriage rides through Mt. Pleasant%26#39;s Towne Center shopping center - really got us into the holiday spirit.
These are great suggestions. I%26#39;ll look into Charleston Place. I%26#39;m excited about the progressive dinner too. What about the lighted boat show I%26#39;ve read about and the parade?
I believe the Christmas Boat Parade is quite early in the season - maybe the first week in December. Check the ';Festivals and Events'; under ';Things to Do'; as most of these events repeat annually.
I think the first weekend in Dec.is when we would come.
I checked into Charleston Place...it%26#39;s too much. More suggestions? I think between $200-$300 is acceptable.
Market Pavillon Hotel.
