Planning on visit to Ashley river plantations after arrival in Charleston at airport and prior to going to Kiawah. Looking for restaurant suggestion(ie: bbq joint) on way to plantation( probably Middleton) or if better to eat at restaurant at Middleton. Thanks

On Hwy 17 is Bessenger%26#39;s Barbecue - maybe someone will chime in with something closer or better?

Middleton Place also has an area near the parking lot and museum shop that offeres salads and sandwiches. They have a small picnic area or you can take it out under the oaks in the greensward area. Their chicken salad is VERY good!
Bessinger%26#39;s is our usual lunch stop on the way to Kiawah from the airport. I have to get my ';fix'; on SC pulled pork and BBQ hash, but the ribs are good as well.
On the other hand, we also really like the restaurant at Middleton Place. It may be more relaxing for you to head straight to the plantation after a busy morning of travel.
