Charleston restaurants prix fix menus

Notice several of the upscale Charleston restaurants have fixed price menus..Tristan, Magnolia, McGrady%26#39;s among others. Are these full-sized portions or just ';tastes';? Worth getting versus the regular menu items?

I think the ';tasting'; trend is a personal choice - some people prefer the constant attention of the waiter presenting each course, which in some restaurants comes with a specially-paired wine. You can expect each course to be small, sometimes smaller than appetizer-sized. One thing that is true is that if everyone at your table does the sample thing it%26#39;s fine - if some want to and others don%26#39;t it becomes a service nightmare; most of the time they won%26#39;t split a table that way - it%26#39;s all or nothing. Whether it%26#39;s worth it or not...???...there is a lot of attention to detail when you%26#39;re only getting one scallop on a plate or 3 beans and a dollop of potato, and it will be delicious, but I probably wounldn%26#39;t choose the tasting menu if I were very hungry.

I have had them at some restaurants and they are huge portions and others are more like tapas so ask the restaurant.
