My daughter and I are visiting the College of Charleston in April on the Monday after Easter. We%26#39;ll be arriving in SC probably late Saturday night so we%26#39;ll really just have one day—Easter Sunday—to explore the area.
I%26#39;d appreciate any recommendations on what to do. Here are some more specifics:
- An Easter brunch would be nice but I don%26#39;t think we want to spend a lot of time eating when there%26#39;s so much to see and do. So maybe we could start the day with a good Southern breakfast and then be out and about. Recommendations? Will churches be absolutely packed?
- Daughter loves shopping (hates museums) but we prefer to avoid chain stores that we have in NYC. Local boutiques are preferable. Will stores be open on Easter Sunday? Market Street area?
- Sounds like a carriage ride is a good idea. We also like the idea of just strolling around and checking out the neighborhood. Pointers? South of Broad area?
- Daughter also loves the beach. Recommendations for a beach with teen appeal?
- We%26#39;ll have a car and so can venture out. Are there any other places/sites that are must-sees to show a potential future student (and a Northerner to boot) what a beautiful and historic area this part of the South is?
Thanks so much for your help! We%26#39;re really looking forward to this trip.

You are going to have to make some hard choices. Yes, the churches will be full, it%26#39;s Easter!
One option for Easter brunch and the beach is having brunch at the newly remodeled Holiday Inn in Folly Beach, right on the ocean. You can then walk the beach, pier. I don%26#39;t know what kind of shopping you are looking for, and don%26#39;t know if downtown shops will be opened. Tourist shops will be opened on folly, and I%26#39;m sure there will be some downtown stores opened. A carriage ride is a good option for your general sight seeing. Your day is done. It%26#39;s 20 minutes from Folly to downtown on Easter.

Wow, I%26#39;m feeling stressed answering this message.
After breakfast, Start with a Carriage Ride
Then Walk through the Market, and I%26#39;d suggest checking out the grocery store Harris Teeter (since it%26#39;s where your daughter will shop for groceries) It%26#39;s on East Bay, just a few blocks north of Market St)
Then walk down East Bay to White Point Gardens (where the cannon are) and walk through the residential area up King Street. Go all the way up King to the College and you%26#39;ll get a pretty good lay of the land.
Many stores will be open; most restaurants, too - but specifics I don%26#39;t know.
That unfortunately should take most of your day. Hopefully the weather will cooperate! Enjoy and welcome.
Thanks, Diane and CultureHound! Your advice is much appreciated.
