South Carolina Coast Tour

Hi,

Our plans are to travel from Jacksonville to Myrtle Beach, stopping in Savannah and Charleston as well as the other two places. Any advice or helpful suggestion as to what to visit on the way and which hotels to stay in would be most welcome.

Thanks

Savannah and Charleston are two of my favorite places to visit. We like to stay at a place called Palm Key, www.PalmKey.com , which is located between the two cities. The Palm Key cottages are on the marsh, beautiful and relaxing, and have full kitchens and laundry. Ask for the current special price - they often have one available. We take day trips from Palm Key, visiting both Savannah and Charleston, as well as some of these places on each trip:

Beaufort SC, a charming Southern town and great art town with a deep water harbor, historic buildings and churches, shops and places to eat.

If you like the beach, try the less crowded and more natural beach at Hunting Island State Park and climb to the top of the lighthouse for a great view (road out of Beaufort). Or, if you like the bustle of a resort area, try the Hilton Head Island Beaches - you can even rent bicycles and ride on the broad flat sandy beach here.

The Ashley River Road Plantations - 3 fabulous and very different plantations are open to the public - is another fun day trip. Visit the Audubon Swamp at Magnolia Plantation, or visit the Francis Beidler Forest (another swamp).

If you want a truely local experience, have dinner at Harold%26#39;s Country Club (near Palm Key). It is a very casual place frequented by everyone.

Definitely log onto the Charleston, SC forum (beware, there is a Charleston, WV forum - quite different place) as well as the Savannah forum.

When will you be traveling and who is in your party? (Ages - no, you don%26#39;t have to be specific! :)

Also - how much time for your total trip and do you have specific plans for Myrtle Beach? Thanks.

Hi,

We are two couples all in our 50%26#39;s. We are going to take two weeks to do this trip. I have looked at the hotels just in Savannah and they seem very expensive is Charleston the same. We may have to stay outside the towns as $150 to $200 is far too much.

Thanks

You might save some money by trying this.. do 2 days in Jacksonville, 2 in Savannah, rent a house for a week at the beach in Charleston, finish up in Myrtle beach for the last 2-3 days.

If it works out that you%26#39;ll be in Charleston from a Saturday to a Saturday, that%26#39;ll be easy.
